Mia is among 22 high school students selected nationally to compete for a life-changing academic scholarship.
Students from across the United States were invited to create phone case designs representing this year’s theme: “A World Within Reach – Future Icons.”
The contest gives young artists a platform to express themselves creatively while competing for a $25,000 academic scholarship.
“In partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to give youth an opportunity to express themselves through a phone case design, but also an opportunity to win a $25,000 academic scholarship, we know how that can be life-changing for youth as they continue into their academic and career endeavors,” Roxanne Wingate, Public Affairs Director at Cox Communications, said.
Mia’s artwork showcases a hand putting together a puzzle piece in the shape of Earth, filled with different colors. The design depicts how each person has their own puzzle piece that fits into our world.
Mia shared that her art represents the beauty of life, innovation, and communication, and shows how humanity and technology combined complete the puzzle of our Earth. She expressed how this piece shows an optimistic vision for the future.
The symbolism is powerful — each person’s unique contribution matters in creating a connected, whole world.
Tony Penn, interim CEO for the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, believes Mia’s design has what it takes to win nationally.
“It is part of the great mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs, and it’s always special to see one of our club kids get the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. This design was a dream of Mia’s, and she put that dream down on paper,” Penn said.
Penn also expressed confidence in Mia’s design for the competition.
“In that national competition, we believe that her great design is going to win national and a 25-thousand-dollar scholarship potentially for Mia, and to help our Boys and Girls Club be able to expand our team tech innovation here in Tucson and Southern Arizona,” Penn added.
While the grand prize winner will be announced in late spring, the public can help Mia win the Fan Favorite Award through voting.
Voting is open now through Feb. 28.
This is your chance to support a local student’s artistic vision and help her on her path to academic success.
